Running for Beginners

running for beginners

Running can seem like a daunting task to most of us. But if you give it a fair chance, it can transform your body, mind and even spirit.

I personally love running because of the many benefits I get from it. Did you know that running is the perfect cardio workout?! Here are some of the reasons I am a lifetime runner.

  • It decreases the risk of cardiovascular disease death by 45%

  • Running increases your lifespan by 3 years, just by doing it 2 hours a week

  • It keeps your bone density strong (especially in the legs) as you age

  • The longer you do it, the more meditative it becomes

  • It de-stresses the body and mind

  • And, it keeps the core in shape!

If you are new to running, here are a few quick tips for getting started!

First off, don't start by thinking you have to run a marathon.

~ Start slow ~

Make sure you can still hold a conversation while walking or running in the first few weeks. This gives your body time to adjust while allowing you to mentally work your way up to a faster pace.

~ Follow a plan ~

Set a goal for the day going into the run. Tell yourself how far, how long, where and how fast you’re going to go before starting so that you hold yourself accountable.

~ Base the run on time, not miles in the beginning ~

It’ll help you stick to it. For example, if your goal is 45 mins, that’s less intimidating than telling yourself you’re going to run 5 miles. It’s a mental game and we just need to remind ourselves that we can do it.

I’ll be back to share more with you in a few weeks. Feel free to leave a reply below with questions, comments, concerns or you can shoot me an email.

As always, the best wealth is health!
